These two turtles were owned by a veterinarian in north Jersey. They were being called a “snapping turtle” and a “box turtle.” You might want to give him half credit for the box turtle, except that the box turtle he had in mind is a land turtle and the Malaysian box is a water turtle.

They were being feed inappropriate foods and, if you look at the bent shell of the Malaysian, you can see that it was having a negative effect. Their shells were very slimy from the filthy water they were living in and there is no way to tell what their insides look like.
They will probably survive, though how old they are now and long they may live is anyone’s guess.
They will be fed properly, nursed back to reasonable health and may be able to do programs within a year.

Not all orphans are injured or abused. This baby kingsnake is in perfect health. As to see him in our “Baby Creatures” program.

We must have hatched and cared for over a thousand snapping turtles since Bill started doing it in 1987. Fortunately they are easier than they look.
