The left side photo is a close up of the underside of a large centipede species. Please note the large sharp fangs. These are actually modified legs that are specialized to kill using venom. ----The right side photo is a perfect example of how NOT to handle these animals. I believe this one is from Vietnam, but it’s hard to tell since the head is almost out of the photo. I spoke to a field naturalist once that said he been gored by a rhino, bitten by a rattlesnake and bitten by a Vietnamese centipede and though the rhino put him in the hospital for a month and the rattler venom left a scar like a meteor crater in his arm; he would do either of them again rather than get bit by another centipede!! |
