LIOPLEURODON |

As evidence of how science works is Liopleurodon. Initially estimated at 150 tons, it would have been about the size of a medium sized blue whale and only the sperm whale would have been a bigger predator, ever living on Earth. This information was all over the web and even appeared on the TV show, “Walking With Dinosaurs.” from the BBC. Unfortunately the estimate was wrong and that wrong estimate was then exaggerated. The Liopleurodon, a pliosaur from the Jurassic, was probably about 20ft long and perhaps 2 tons. It swam like a seal, had the attitude and eating habits of a crocodile, but was basically an ocean going lizard. |
