SOFT SHELLED TURTLE |

Having a comical face doesn’t mean you’re funny. And that is certainly the case here. Though many people fear the snapping turtle, it’s aggression is nothing in comparison to the Florida Soft Shelled Turtle.
A close friend of mine worked as a ranger in a central Florida park, when one morning he stepped over a tussock of grass and felt a tug on his foot. He was wearing a heavy duty work boot but when he looked down he found the entire heel area had been torn away. Splashing to it’s escape was a big female soft shell turtle with the heel of his boot still in its beaked mouth. Imagine if he had been wearing sneakers! We use these turtles in several of our programs, including our Radical Reptiles birthday and the Cypress Swamp - Llanos Habitat show. |
