  EPAULET SHARK

Many people don’t realize how diverse sharks can be. Thanks to “Jaws” and other fish tales the shark has become a symbol of a bloody death for humans, but the facts are far from this morbid horror story. The epaulet shark is a shy coral reef animal that prowls the coral shallows looking for fish that get trapped in tidal pools. It can crawl on the sand, up into the air, down into the pool and dine in peace. When it has finished it’s fish dinner it will crawl across the sand back into the sea. No “Jaws” here.

This shark can be found in our Fish Tales and Ocean Oddballs show, Shark Reef, or Coral Reef - Great Swamp program.
