The solution to troublesome crocodiles returning to their home range after they've been moved is on your refrigerator! In 2009, in Chiapas, Mexico, 20 individuals of 3 crocodilian species, Spectacled Caiman, Morlet's Croc and American Croc, had magnets set on their heads for a few hours prior to release, none have returned! Magnetism's effect is poorly understood in animals. We know that crocs and birds can home using it but we don't know how it's done. Certainly if it saves crocs' and peoples' lives we don't need to know much about the how, to use it! |
