"Bad Pet, Worse Owners" Caiman
Caiman are alligator relatives from South America. They are very aggressive and are even worse pets than alligators. This caiman was rescued by one person from another who was going to put it in a pond where it would have certainly died when winter came. The rescuer took it home and fed it chicken cutlets, hamburgers and hot dogs. These meats are made for people. People cannot digest bones but caiman can and must eat bones for the calcium to build their own bones. Without the bones in his food, he couldn't make his own bones hard and straight, so his are bent and weak. This caiman's bones are so bent and weak that he can't swim! The damage on his back are burns made by a heat light which he couldn't get away from because his cage was so small there was no place for him to hide. All this suffereing could have been avoided if both people didn't get a pet that was illegal, (as all caiman, crocs and gators are) or if they would have turned the animal over to someone who could keep it legally and properly, or if they would have researched what these animals needed. |

"Beware the "Spot-Remover"! African Rock Python
The African Rock Python can weight 300 pounds and be 23 feet long. They are one of the largest snakes on Earth and certainly a dangerous pet at that size. In southern Africa, where they are found, they eat wild pigs, wild dogs, antelope, cheetah and even small leopards!! They are known for their stubbornness and ability to find weaknesses in cages. That's how this one got his odd name. He escaped from his previous owner's cage and found a dog which he tried to eat!!! (The dog was rescued unharmed.)
(In old movies, many dogs were named "Spot". Hence, his name!)
